There's an idyllic view of Germany that conjures up images of fast flowing rivers with lots of activity, little villages with cobbled streets, linden trees, half-timbered houses clinging to the steep hillsides of the valleys atop of which are romantic castles. It’s not an idyll, it’s a reality! For many years we explored both the Rhine and Mosel with our clients who never failed to make the most of their experience. Come and see for yourself in 2021!
We set off from home on Saturday and drive to Dover where we cross the Channel to Calais. We arrive in France and then cross into Belgium and head for Liége and our overnight at the Post Hotel.
On Sunday we resume the journey and cross into Germany near Aachen and make our first stop at the major city of Cologne where we’ll sightsee and partake of some refreshment. We continue to the famous riverside town of Boppard where we check into the Hotel Ebertor for 5 nights.
Nothing is planned for Monday - just relax, get your bearings and enjoy the local scene. You’ll find plenty to do even if it is only lifting a foaming stein of beer or a römer glass of the local crisp wine.
On Tuesday our excursion will take us over the hill to the banks of the Mosel and thence to Cochem, a beautiful riverside town. There’ll be time for sightseeing and in the early afternoon we visit a fun wine tasting establishment after which we return to the hotel.
Our Wednesday activity will involve a boat trip on the River Rhine in the morning and an afternoon at leisure in Boppard.
On Thursday we drive southwards and cross the Rhine to the other bank where we continue south to Rüdesheim . The pretty town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany and is enhanced by a visit to the Asbach Uralt brandy distillery before we get down to the serious business of sightseeing!
We leave Boppard on Friday morning and make the short drive to Koblenz at the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Mosel. After a short period of sightseeing we resume our drive and travel southwards alongside the Mosel, past Luxembourg and into Belgium and our overnight at Namur
On Saturday we enter France and travel to the coast. We’ll pause in Calais for a little sightseeing before crossing to Dover and then back to the West.
